Junior Hockey
Ashby Hockey Club junior traiming takes place on the Astroturf at Ivanhoe College, North Street, Ashby-de-la-Zouch. LE65 1HU.
- Junior training is on Sunday mornings from 10-11am
- This session caters for boys and girls from 5 years up to 12/13 years old
- Sessions run between September and May
- Badgers training is on Thursday evenings from 7-8pm
- This session is by invitation and caters for boys and girls from 10 years up to 16 years old
- Session run between August and July
- Academy training is on Thursday evenings from 7-8pm
- This session caters for boys and girls who are eligible to play U14 and U16 age group matches for Ashby HC.
- Sessions run during the hockey season (September to April)
We run two badgers teams that play league fixtures on Saturdays during the season. Our 'White Sox' team plays in a West Midlands league and our 'Red Sox' team in an East Midlands league.
Badgers matches are for juniors under the age of 16 who are not playing regular adult hockey. They are 11-a-side teams help bridge the gap from junior to senior hockey and tend to include one adult playing alongside the juniors.
Our age group teams play matches against other clubs. We field U8s, U10s, U12s, U14s, U16s and U18s age group teams.
U8s squads tend to be mixed, 4-a-side teams playing a tournament style fixture each month against other Leicestershire clubs (on a Sunday)
We run both U10 boys and U10 girls 7-a-side teams. Matches take place on a Sunday (normally once per month) in a tournament style against other clubs across Leicestershire and the Midlands.
Our U12 boys and girls each play in a Midlands league, with fixtures on a Sunday.
Towards the end of the season, our U10s and U12s boys and girls enter the Leicestershire County Championships, with the winners and runners up progressing through to Regional Midlands Finals.
Our U14s, U16s and U18s boys and girls have the option to play in a Midlands league and also the EHA cup.
2022/23 season:
Our U10 and U12 boys and girls teams have all been crowned County Champions (the U10 girls sharing this with Loughborough).
All 4 teams went on to play in the Regional Midlands finals, where they had fun, developed and learnt. All won some matches, but they came up against some strong, generally older opposition. The experience will hopefully be something to build on for next season.
U14 girls and U16 boys teams reached the EHA Tier 2 Championship final:
After victories over Leicester, Belper, Lindum, Leek, Preston and Khalsa, the boys came up against a strong Bromley and Beckenham side in the final.
The girls secured victories over Khalsa, Sutton, Belper, Rugby, Henley and Norwich Dragons to reach the final, where a close game finished 2-2, before Marden Russetts won on penalty shuffles.
International Honours:
Congratulations to Liam Barker on his selection for the England U18 squad. Liam has been training and playing for Ashby HC from the start of his hockey career and it is a fantastic achievement for him and the club that he received his international call up. We wish him all the best as he moves from Ashby to Belper to play his hockey this season.
